When Magic Happens… | Chicago Child Photographer

A year ago I had a vision of our family’s perfect portrait: my husband and I, with our kids piled all around, sitting on my pretty green couch in the middle of a field of purple wildflowers. Call me crazy. : ) But with skill of one of my dearest (and most open-minded!) friends behind the camera, we were able to capture the photos that I’d been dreaming of… they’re SUCH treasures to me and over the past year I’ve been dreaming of the set with some of your sweet faces instead of ours… : )

This morning was our “Purple Wildflower Field” day… green couch and all! I’ll admit, we got a few strange looks from people walking by. But honestly, it was worth every one… these pictures are BEAUTIFUL!!!

At 5:13 this morning I awoke to one of the loudest, sweetest, most beautiful melodies I’ve ever heard come out of a local songbird. This goofy creature must have been sitting just outside my window… it’s clear (and occasionally off-pitched) tune was loud enough to pull me out of some fairly sound “mommy sleep” and into the beauty of this new day.

While I *highly* value good sleep, I really didn’t mind the ruckus. The bird was calling out to whomever had ears, almost as though it knew it’s song was just too important to wait for a more decent hour… that holding back would mean it’s message would become lost among the busyness of the awakening day.

I’ve felt a strong wind of renewed purpose wash over my heart recently. Like the bird still warbling outside my window, I’ve been blessed with the realization that I, too, have a song to sing. It’s a melody that only I know how to sing… a song that emerges from the very depth of my soul to awaken the sleepy world around me and bring joy to those who will listen.

We all have a song to sing. I believe that the most beautiful treasures of this life lie within the hearts of the people that surround us.
