Back in Town and Audiobooks | Children’s Photography

This family makes me smile.  Every. single. year.  So you can imagine my sadness when I heard from their sweet mama that they were moving out east.

AND… you can imagine my excitement when I got an e-mail from her that they’d be in town last weekend!!!  Ooooh, lucky, lucky me! : )

The kids were wonderful, as always.  They are getting SO big!!!

And again, let me stress the importance of “mommy-daddy” pictures.  Don’t pass up the opportunity, ever!

Another little tidbit to cover… audiobooks!!!  My latest discovery! : )

I’d LOVE to classify myself as an avid reader.  You know… the kind that carves out time to sit in a peaceful little corner, sipping on tea and turning pages as my mind absorbs all the goodness of literature.  I am, sadly, not an avid reader in that way, because my life does not have a quiet, peaceful little corner with hot tea in it.  Not right now, anyway. : )

I discovered the magic of audiobooks earlier this summer, though, and thought I’d pass the little secret along.  I’ve listened to some really great reads: Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, Eat to Live by Joel Fuhrman, and Made to Stick by Chip and Dan Heath. I’ve enjoyed listening to books so, SO much these past few months, and am realizing just how many years I’ve wasted in assuming that I have no time for good literature!  I now listen to books as I’m driving around from session to session, when I’m going to sleep at night, when I’m doing dishes at home and my kids are playing outside… it’s the perfect way to soak in a little inspiration without needing total uninterrupted peace and quiet.

The book I just finished was Donald Miller’s A Million Miles in a Thousand Years.  I loved it so much that I was actually sad when it was over.  It’s read by the author, which (in my opinion) always makes an audiobook so much better.  I was reminded through this book that the best parts of life happen through doing, not just wishing and planning.  It made me want to jump into my life with a little more zest.  I love books that inspire me like that! : )

The picture below links you to the book… head on over to FB for a fun giveaway related to today’s post!

Yay!

Sweet Sibs and Facebook : ) Chicago Children’s Photographer

The past four days have been a whirlwind… school picture day at my kiddos’ school, thirteen sessions, and a seriously nasty head cold.  You know… the kind where you feel like your eyeballs are about to pop out of your head and there’s not enough makeup in all the world to cover up the bags under your eyes.  The weather was TOTALLY on our side, though, and all of the sweethearts I photographed were absolute angels.  How I love the kids I photograph. : )

These darling siblings were my last session yesterday.  They were bouncy, fun, adorable, and charming:

We had way too much fun. : )

Also, a note about Facebook…

I’ve never been a big “count my fans” girl, but I did want to take a second to share that if you’re not a fan, or you are a fan but you’re not seeing posts, you may want to check in every now and then.  When I have the opportunity to photograph commercial projects, Facebook is almost always the place I go to announce “model calls”.  If you like the idea of your little one(s) being part of ads, books, etc… keep an eye on the FB page… I’ve probably popped at least 10-15 model calls on my page in the past few months, and there are many more to come! : )

Brace Yourself… : ) Chicago Family Photographer

Yesterday morning started off with one of the sweetest families on earth.

No, really. : )

They are good friends of ours… near and dear to our family’s heart, so capturing them is (obviously!) one of my very favorite things to do…

Good lookin’, no?

I just adore these two…

Ok… now brace yourself.  This boy’s mama seriously knows style:

Aaauuugghhhhh!!!!

It was hard to shoot these because I was laughing and smiling so much!!!

Their sixth anniversary is coming up.  So we did some “mommy daddy” pictures.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to have pictures like this taken and up on your wall. Let your kids assume, every day, that you love each other and are on the same team. ; )

Love!

Lil’ Squirt : ) Chicago Baby Photographer

I got a new crate at the Kane County Flea Market. : )

This baby seemed like a perfect fit for it’s debut…

She was, in two words, cuteness overload:

Red hair, blue eyes, and the sweetest little personality…

She was also the perfect model for one of my latest knitting creations.  You know that cozy, I-must-knit-something-now feeling?

No?

Well, it hits me every fall and I become a bit of a maniac.  I’ve made 3 new hats in the past few weeks and I’ve got a few more on my needles.  Jonathan has basically drawn a line in the sand on me buying any more yarn, so I’m bound and determined to use up what I’ve got.  And I can’t feel sorry for myself… I probably have 20 skeins lying around.  It’s embarrassing. ; )

Mustard yellow is an amazing color.  So happy and mellow, all at the same time!

ALSO!

My friend Lindsay over at The Cottage Mama is hosting a giveaway for a JoTotes camera bag.  These are seriously some of my favorite camera bags out there… I always recommend them to my Sweet Shots classes, and I’ve had a few of my own. ; )  Anyway, it’s a fun giveaway… just thought I’d let you know!

Oh… one more thing (am I all over the place today or what?!?)

Last night we had creamy tomato soup and grilled cheese.

Can you say YUMMY?  And FALL?  And mmmm.mmmmmm GOOD!!!

Such an easy dinner and SO delish!
