Half-Off Sweet Shots Workshops, Stuff for Sale, & Mr. K : ) | Chicago Photography Classes

Well hello there!

I’m beginning to get the wind back in my sails again after this past week’s tragedy big event.  A few bowls of ice cream and an empty kleenex box later, I think I’m ready to jump back into life… it’s gonna be a great week!!!

………………………………………………….

First of all…

It’s been a whirlwind of a month.  Like… a whirlwind.  All of that rain and heat from July and the first part of August has meant that I’ve been shooting either part or all of almost every day.  So, needless to say, we’ve been a little overwhelmed trying to keep up with it all!  If you’re waiting for your pictures, please know that I’m working just about every moment that I’m awake and not shooting… I’ve been up *long* past bedtime every night this past week trying to keep up!  We try so hard to stay within the two week timeline, but every now and then there are circumstances out of our control that push things back a bit. Thanks so much for your patience… I know your excited and waiting is awful… I’m working hard to get them to you SOON!!!

Two Spots Left… Shoot-Along Workshop!!!

Also, just thought I’d throw it out there for my last-minute people…

I have two spots left for our shoot-along mini workshop tomorrow evening!  I’m pretty sure we’re gonna have a blast…

If you’re really into photography and/or have your own photography business and you’d love to get some fresh ideas, this is an awesome way to do a workshop without spending typical workshop prices… how fun is that?!?

HUGE Sweet Shots Class Sale!!!

Every month I teach the Sweet Shots classes, and this month was extra-fun because we were featured on Groupon!!! It’s been so awesome to meet so many new families in the Chicagoland area… I was seriously impressed this weekend with the eagerness of all the moms and dads that came in to learn about their DSLRs!  Here’s a shot of Saturday’s class… are they not adorable?!?

A quick little fyi… if you’ve been hoping to try out the Sweet Shots classes, we’re going to run a sale for anyone else who might have missed the Groupon but still wants to get in on the fun!  Over Labor Day Weekend, September 3-5, we’ll be knocking the price to half-off (that’s $80!) for all of the next year’s Sweet Shots Level One  classes… mostly because I really believe that if you come to one of these classes, you’ll be hooked. : )  So if you’re hoping to come to one, sign up over Labor Day weekend!!! : )

Would you be amazing (as you always are!) and help us spread the word about our upcoming sale?  At the bottom of this page, there’s a Facebook “like” button… it’s really (like, really) helpful to us when you take a second to do that!  THANK YOU!!!

Photo Equipment for Sale!

Used Canon DSLR – $250

Ok, I’ve got this Canon DSLR that I bought about six months ago to help me get more familiar with Canons for the classes I teach.  Now that I totally get it and it’s purpose has been served, I’m popping it up for sale here to the first person who wants it… click on its picture for more details:

Used (but barely!) Nikon Zoom Lens – $100

Also, I’ve got a Nikon 55-200mm lens for sale… it’s one that I bought way back when I first started, and it’s a good little zoom lens if you’re looking for something to capture your kids playing soccer outside or you want to take pictures of your kids in “spy mode”.  Hehe.  If you’ve come to any of my classes, though, you’ll know that I’m not, overall, a huge fan of zoom lenses unless they cost at least a thousand dollars (crazy, I know!!!), and I’ve got another one that I’m happy using until I’m ready to shell out the big bucks for the one I dream of… (and no, this will not be happening anytime in the near future…) : )

Same as above… e-mail if you want it and we’ll send you a PayPal request.

Click the picture above for more info about the lens.

And, finally… Mr. “K”

Sweet Mr. K, whom I’ve been capturing since he was 18 months old, is the *perfect* way to start off your week!

Now, really… this smile?!?  Could he be any cuter? : )

His parents love him so much… that’s probably what I love watching the most when we do sessions…

He knows he’s loved, too.  In the most perfect way, I think… not a spoiled love, just a loved loved.

(you know?)

He’s a happy boy…

And his parents are happy, too.  I’ve always noticed that about them.

It was fun to capture just them, together, for a bit…

Happy parents make for happy families.  Anyone who’s married with kids will tell you that being happy parents is not always easy.  It takes work.  And grace.  And love.  And hope.

And they have it all…

Whew!  What a post!  Now (just one more shameless reminder…) would you “like” it if you liked it? : )

Hope your week’s off to a great start!!!

Angela - I’m excited about your sale this weekend. Also, I do want to purchase the Nikon lens-I sent you an email too :). I couldn’t click on the link so if you have more details that’s great but either way I will take it. Thanks!

I was doing fine… | Downers Grove Mommmy

Today is my oldest baby’s first day of kindergarten.

And I was doing fine… really.

…………………………………………………….

We laid out her clothes last night,

got up and ate a healthy breakfast,

gave her a quick tub and did her hair,

got her dressed, put on her shoes, grabbed her lunch,

walked out the door,

then stood out front to take a quick picture…

(because that’s what you do…)

…………………………………………………….

The pictures looked like this:

but my heart saw this:

and at school, when she walked into her class, I saw this:

And I know all the things people say…

she will love school,

she is so ready,

you can’t hold her back…

…………………………………………………….

But right now, to be quite honest, I’m sitting here at my laptop wiping away tears, nursing the pain with a Starbucks skinny hazelnut latte, and it’s not really helping.  Because that was tough.

And I think I get it, just a little more today, what moms mean when they tell me it goes so fast.

Cause it goes so fast…

Cory - Today is day 2 for Carter…not getting any easier!!!

Naomi - Wow, way to make me tear up at work!

Maggie - Seriously? I’m crying now, too. I love the photo of her in the purple shirt. She has that “I’m Annie, and I have you figured out” look on her face. I love that girl! Love you, too :)

Diane McDOnnell - AMY! You are killin me! Wiping away my own tears as I type this……

julie chen - oh, girl. this made ME cry. hang in there! she’s such a sweetie.

Patti Denton - My heart hurts with you as tomorrow is our first day, I too am spending my evening in tears wondering how we got here already!

Alyssa - What a cutie – you got me all teary, btw. Sniff!!

Danielle - My heart broke for you reading this and I don’t even know you! My eldest are 11 now and I still see what you see! Enjoy this new chapter as you did the last. Be proud as your images are a living testament to it all!

Laurie - Amy this is so sweet!

tangie - ohhhh… it is such a crazy thing on the heart, isn’t it? being so proud of them as they grow, but so wanting to hang on to each and every moment just a little bit longer… ok, maybe a lot longer :)…. my youngest started kindergarten this past week **sniff**!

Mimi - Holly told me about the pictures she saw on your blog. When did she grow up????? P-pa and I are still wiping away the tears. I promise you the rest goes just as fast. Kiss and hug our girl for us. We love you all.

Whatever the weather… | Chicago Baby Photographer

Anyone else a little confused these days about the weather in Chicago?  It seems like just a *few* too many sessions have been ending in thunderstorms lately!!!  I had to share a few from my last session today, because they were wonderfully brave and decided to “go for it” even though it was pouring (and I do mean POURING) rain only an hour before their session began…

It was only a matter of minutes between the last thunder clap and the first ray of sunshine. : )

Their reward?  Some of the most rockin’ awesome puddles EVER!!!

We had so much fun!!!

A pretty sunset to top it all off… gotta love Chicago weather! : )

Melody - Wow, wow, wow. Really great shots. Love the puddle, love the kiss, love the bridge. LOVE the creativity and the Go for It attitude of both parties!

if it were me… | Chicago Family Photographer

… I’d be planning out some pretty fantastic wall galleries right now…

: )

Wish I could comment longer, but I’m off to finish a message  (HA! I sound like my husband!!!) and head to bed after a long but wonderful day of shooting.  I made blogging promises to two families today, though, and I’m not about to go back on my word…

Here they are… the two BEAUTIFUL families that got their sessions in before this morning’s lovely downpour:

Family #1:

I was sitting in my five year old’s bed tonight as she was falling asleep, editing the picture below.  Our conversation went something like this:

A: Mom, were those kids nice kids?

Me:  Oh, yes, sweetie… they were wonderful!

A: Did they do everything you asked them?  Or just some of the things?  Like, did they stick their tongue out at you or anything like that?  Or, like when you asked them to smile, did they just do it like they were supposed to?

Me: Hmmm… I think they were pretty great listeners.  They did pretty much everything I asked them to…

A: How come they look so happy?  Do they like taking pictures?  Why do some people like taking pictures?

Me:  I think they do like taking pictures… or maybe they’re smiling because I was singing them a silly song and doing a silly dance…

A: Oh. Ok.  Their mom is so pretty.  And so happy.  I love this picture, Mom…

Me:  Me too, sweet girl… : )

(how cute is she?!? The girl is my little running commentary…) : )

Ok… NEXT family!!! : )

This little guys was PURE adorableness.

Enough said…

It was a very full, very sweet day!

Love!
